Pathways & Progress

Every child's pathway through Maypole Farm is individual. We assess, plan, and support progress in a way that is genuinely tailored to each young person.

No two children take the same path.

We never assume we know what a child needs before we meet them. And we never assume the plan we agree in September will still be right in March. Children change. Their needs change. Their goals change.

Every young person at Maypole Farm has an individual plan that evolves with them. Built with the child and family, kept under regular review, and genuinely responsive to how things are going.

For some children, the goal is eventually returning to mainstream education — and we actively support that when the time is right. For others, the pathway leads somewhere different: further education, skills and employment, a positive life on their own terms.

Both are valid. Both are success.

From first contact to settled attendance

Here's how a young person typically moves into and through Maypole Farm — step by step, always at a pace that works for them.

1

Initial contact

A family, professional, or LA makes an initial referral enquiry. We discuss the young person's situation informally — no paperwork required at this stage.

2

Suitability discussion

We have a fuller conversation about the young person's needs, what they are finding difficult, and whether Maypole Farm is likely to be a good fit. Honest and open.

3

Visit the farm

The child and family are invited to visit Maypole Farm — a relaxed, informal look around, time to meet the team, and a chance for the young person to see whether it feels right for them. No pressure.

4

Funding confirmation

We work with the family and/or referring authority to confirm the funding route — whether that is an EHCP, LA AP commissioning, school direct funding, or another arrangement.

5

Individual plan developed

Before the young person starts, we develop their individual plan with input from the family, any referring professionals, and the young person themselves where possible.

6

Gradual start

We don't do big, sudden starts. We build attendance gradually — often starting with just a short session or a couple of days, then increasing as confidence and trust grow.

What progress looks like

Progress at Maypole Farm is measured in ways that matter — not just in data points.

Arriving. Even for an hour.
Feeling safe enough to say when something is wrong.
Making a friend, or being kind to someone.
Completing something they thought they couldn't.
Asking to come more often.
Smiling. Laughing. Being themselves.
Engaging with learning — even for five minutes.
Improved wellbeing, reported by families.
Building towards qualifications and next steps.

Review and accountability

Individual plans are reviewed regularly — termly as a minimum, and more frequently when a child's needs or circumstances are changing. Families are always involved. Professionals receive regular updates. We are transparent about what is working and honest about what isn't.

Positive routes forward — whatever they look like

Return to mainstream

For some young people, the goal is reintegration. We work carefully to ensure any transition is planned, supported, and sustainable — not rushed or premature. We maintain contact and offer support during the transition period.

Further education and training

Many young people move from Maypole Farm into further education — college, apprenticeships, vocational training. We support the transition, help with applications, and ensure qualifications are in place.

Employment and independence

For older young people, the pathway may lead directly towards employment, supported employment, or independent living. We help young people develop the skills, confidence, and qualifications they need to take that next step.
